Saif

Saif is a baby blanket, made as a gift. Soft cotton in the nursery colours chosen by the family, with the baby's name hand-embroidered into the cloth. Each detail is specific to the child it was made for: the palette, the name, the weight of the fabric. A piece made to be used, held, and kept.

I made Saif as a gift for a new arrival. The cotton was chosen to match the nursery palette: the colours that would surround him in those first months. His name is embroidered by hand into the surface.

A gift for a specific child should have nothing generic in it. I chose this fabric because it was soft enough to use from the start. I embroidered it precisely enough that it would be kept.
